Sinus Tarsi Syndrome

There are many causes for chronic pain in the ankle. A common one is sinus tarsi syndrome, which is most often a problem following an ankle sprain. During a sprain, the structures in the sinus tarsi can get strained and not noticed at the time of the sprain resulting in sinus tarsi syndrome. It is often missed originally due to the pain and swelling of the initial injury.
