The DMOZ Web Directory

The Open Directory (ODP) or DMOZ is a huge web directory that lists almost 5 million websites. DMOZ is owned by AOL but run by a large group of volunteers. There is a lot of belief that having a website listed in the DMOZ directory will help a site rank higher in the search engines like Google.
